This is my best 40$ investment so far. Bought a Velbon UP-4DXII from Frys. It comes along with a shoulder strap and a quick release plate. With this monopod, I am successfully shooting with my 300mm at 1/100 or 1/200 shutter speed. Every picture is tack sharp. Remember 300mm on D30 is equivalent to 480mm on standard 35mm camera. So my monopod has transformed my 300mmf4L in a IS lens!

My monopod using stance is as follows

* I extend it full length and plant the monopod feet several feet ahead of me. So the monopod remains slanted.

*Level the camera and tighten the pitch control screw.

* Press the camera firmly against my face.

* keep other hand below the 300mm focussing ring.

* Keep my feets 2 feet apart.

* Visually observe and try to keep the central focus region rectangle to be almost motionless relative to the subject.

* Do not hold the breath and gently squeeze the shutter release.
