Hey gang! I've been lurking for a little while. I've decided that it's time to share some of my concert photos. Here are some from the Osheaga Festival in Montreal last weekend. BTW, Narlus, looks like Kim Gordon wore the same dress the night before... ;)
Let me know what you think of these. They are shot with my 20D, and 28-70mm lens (which I rented and hated). Natural light.

Hey, I think these shots are great.
The only thing I would ask is, is the watermark there so that people won't steal your photos? Because I think its somewhat distracting and easily cropped out without hurting the shot much. If its just for identifying the photographer, I would make it smaller, more subtle. If it is for protecting it against theft, I would put it dead center in the image, perhaps at a low opacity.

Awesome, thanks for your reply!
I usually make my watermark this large because many of our local bands steal my photos. I know it's distracting. I will try a new watermark. Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah, if they're stealing your stuff definitely get it right in the middle or something to somewhat ruin it unless you give them the real version.

why did you hate the 28- 70 lens? I use that all the time in clubs and love it..

I found it to be not sharp when zoomed up to 70mm. My settings were fine, and the images appeared to be in focus, but weren't when I got them into Photoshop. Not all of them, but a lot of them. I wonder if the lens was just too heavy for me. The weight would take some getting used to. I did mention my problem to the shop I rented from. They were going to check it out.
I'd like to try the 17-55mm and the 24-70mm next. I'm looking to buy a lens soon.

well the weight of it isn't as bad as the 70 - 200! lol.. seriously the first time i used my new film body and that lens, not only was i sore from holding it but the dang bass player slid down the monitor cracked me upside the head with the bass and cracked my finger! he was so apologetic! The weight of the lens doesn't bother me now..

agreed, the pics look nice esp last and 3rd from last. i was considering the 28-70 but it's a ton of $ and most of the time for my shoots there's not enough light to even consider a stop like f/2.8....i'm going through my Comets on Fire/Major Stars shots now, and most of 'em were taken f/1.4 @ 1600 and still had shutter speeds of slower than 1/100th.
btw, i saw kim outside the club before we got in and she wasn't wearing that dress then. ;)

I wish the bands I shoot wanted to steal more of my images! If this is truly a problem for you I would suggest that you work out a mutually beneficial offering at a good price and deal with these bands. I don't think your watermarks will slow down anyone who wants to use the images ... the only way to do that is not post them. Use of a watermark is pretty much limited to ensuring the first stealer (before the watermark is deleted) knows who they stole from. :-) So use something less invasive. ;)
Oh, and please put the band and venue names in the titles so we know if we want to look. Just kidding, but it really is nice when we want to go back and search for these things later trying to pin down an image.

Thank you all for your feedback. I will rework my watermark, and post my future shoots. Got a few lined up for the next few weeks!
