I havn't used my built in flash very much since I got the 580 but I noticed it's not poping up. When I press the flash button it still doens't pop up. Anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions?
Thanks,

i don't think they will pop up if you just pust on the flash button. However, it will pop up when you hold down on the suttle button. (also depend on the setting of your cam)

The Canon hotshoes have a switch in them that stops it popping up while somethings in the hotshoe. If there is something in the hotshoe, take it out.
Another thing worth noting is that ocassionally that switch will get stuck. Either return it to Canon (If its under warranty), live with it or try and get it fixed.

The flash won't pop up when camera is off or in sleep mode, that's all I could think of.

I tried to press the flash button - didn't work. I tried to take a picture in the dark (didn't work)... The hotshoe meaning where I would put my 580? THere's nothing there. I guess I'll have to take it in to canon.

The flash will only pop up when you press the flash button if the camera is in one of the Creative Zone modes.
However, in the Basic Zone mode, the flash should pop up automatically when you try to shoot in the dark unless it's set to Landscape, Sports or Flash Off mode. If you can't get the flash up in the auto modes where it should, then you'll need to take the camera in for servicing.

Try it with the camera on, in Manual and then hit the button.
