Avoiding broken URLs

I originally posted this on the forum features board with no result.

When I look back over past critique posts I often find that the original images have been removed from the posters webspace/gallery and the dead link remains.

It's irritating to download thread after thread without seeing the image being discussed. Does anyone know of software that would work like a web spider and look ahead two levels and alert me to thread links that go to pages with dead links on them?

Speaking for myself, I load so much stuff that my IP automatically "locks the upload door". When that happens I remove the oldest files.

As well, I sometimes need storage to alllow for fine image uploads and downloads. At those times I have to erase even more history. I usually limit that to files that have been inactive for say 4 weeks.

That said, if you every want to look at one of my erased images... just ask.
