Has anyone else had problems with a Kingston 2GB elite pro CF in an A50? I'm going on a major trip next month, and though this is my back up camera, wanted to update it from the ancient 8M Canon card that it had been using.

But maybe this is just too much for the camera to handle? It displays as offering 999 pictures, and must in reality be more than that as it doesn't decrease as I snap away.

Takes pictures fine, and review is fine when I review in multi mode - but in regular play back, the images are all combined on top of each other. I've formatted the card, and emailed Kingston who said it might be a bad card (and they also offered to replace, which impressed me).

Bought it from Amazon, so fairly certain it's a legit card.

Any advice much appreciated!

Did you format the card in camera or on your PC/MAC? Make sure you format in camera.

There's nothing wrong with you card. Your camera is too old to address all of the CF card memory.

Too large would surprise me a little. 2GB is the largest size that doesn't need FAT 32 support, and there's no size-related architectural limits in CompactFlash.

It may be that something in the camera is unhappy with the size of the card, but I'd be more inclined to believe it as some sort of hardware incompatibility issue.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I did format it in the camera. Opinons on largest size recommended for A50s? And am I risking totally screwed up pictures by using this card, or just forgoing being able to use the playback feature? Maybe I should return it to Kingston and get something smaller that the camera will be happier with, but that will still be significantly more memory that what I have (with the original 8M).
