View Full Version : Dropped ixus problem - any suggestions?

Hi, I recently (and idiotically!) dropped an ixus i. Theres little external damage, but about a minute after turning it on the LCD freezes and the camera won't turn off again (leaving the zoom in the out position). If I then take the battery out and put it back in again, sometimes it will turn back on (and the same will happen again) but usually it remains off with the zoom frozen in the extended position. However, if I then charge the battery to full and put it back in, the camera always turns back on, and freezes again after thirty seconds.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen? It seems like it could be something to do with the battery but I don't understand how a shock would do this to it. Any suggestions about what the problem is or how to solve it would be very gratefully received, I've only had the camera three weeks! Please help!

My Ixus developed a fault, E18 lens extension about one month after purchase but wasn't dropped. The internet retailer replaced it. Could be a similar fault with the lens retraction gearing. I wouldn't wont to repair one myself but search this forum for E18 and you'll get the drift. Good luck.

If you have any, claim on your insurance!

The drop has resulted in a component failing.
The camera shutting down could be from built up heat, built up electricity, a flex board shifting (from heating up a little) and causing a gap in a trace or component connection... Many number of things, but not user servicable.

Send it in for estimate and see what Canon says...
Some home insurance plans might cover the expense of repair.

Had the same thing, returned to supplier saying lens faulty and got a full refund, good old 7dayshop.
