Hi and welcome to a new sigment of the GKPE challange.
The rules are, well apart from the photography ones, none. A topic can be set by anyone and the more obsure then the better it is. We will use this thread to post the photos in. the other thread can be used to talk about it.
GKPE-FC Rules:
1) Each person may submit any number of photos they wish. However due to rule #3 then I hope that it's keeped down to a min.
2) The photos must be taken by the person submitting them during the fortnight of the corresponding challenge.
3) Please be honest in your comments on photos, the idea is to learn from other people's criticisms and praise. If you will take people telling you your photo's are bad personally....maybe you should not post them.
4) Sorry the challenge is for GKPE members only (ie New Zealand residents).
5) To start a new topic, just start a new post and inlarge the txt like so.
Subject "Rain"

Not to sure if it works, however if you wish to edit it then please do so.

don't know the rules, is editing aloud?? if so how much?
Mark0159
10th of September 2006 (Sun), 01:00
hey Mark. At this stage the only rules are photography ones. so yes editing is alowed. the idea is show off photos and to get feed back. either postive or negitve. If you wont to edit the photo go for it.
I like your photo. the only thing I can say is the water drops are a bit dark for me. but that could be my monitor. I like photos that show DOF :) and I like what you have done here.
MHP
10th of September 2006 (Sun), 02:18
yeah it needs some work, i was going to go high key, but the phone rang and then i forgot, haha. do you have to take the photo within any time frame or could it be from last year or whatever?
yours... sorry mate, I'm going to be fully truthful in all I say on here, so....
when i look at it i think it could/should have been taken with more angle looking down or up the length to give it more depth and make it look more interesting. a lot more angle and depth with the droplets in focus. walk around your subject and scrutinize it.

I couldn't find anything to take a photo of so turned the outside light on and was tring to get a lensflare effect with the rain :)
the weather has been good the last couple of days so no more chances to take some photos of the rain

now that you have explanded it, I see what you are trying to get at. Have you thought about adjusting the white balance so it's more of a natural colour. It might come out better

Subject is "rusty"
the rulz are anything that has got rust in it, or might end up having some rust. any kiwi (nz or overseas) can post.
Also be honest, if you don't like it for what ever reason or think of any improvements then feel free to say so. this is a place for us to learn.
there's no limit to the number you can post.
All topics must be related to the photo being posted.

Ok, here's the LATEST CHALLENGE!!!
Prompted by some yabbering in the chat thread, the next task is to produce a vertical triptych. The rules are:
1)It must be a landscape.
2)It must be a series of individual shots, not a single shot spliced into three.
3)I must win. :p (I am joking just in case you're not sure).
Time limit: One month. On your marks, get set, go! :p

It's vertical because it followed on from comments in the main GKPE chat thread after some of my normal triptych things. It was suggested that doing it like in the image above ^^^^ may prove to be quite the challenge to get right. And so it seems
Three shots, one above the other, retaining the shape of a landscape shot respectively. See it as taking three normal 'landscape' orientation images and putting them on top of each other like so:
Image 1
Image 2
Image 3
But the images have to combine and work as a whole, becoming one image which is the idea behind triptych's. It's meant to be difficult, that's why it's called a challenge.

OK, I will, just a quick rough assed effort, I'll do it shortly. I can't believe this is that difficult to get your head round, did people leave brains at home today!? ;)

Hmmm, individual frames are leaves, overall picture is a traffic light? Would this qualify? (I'm not entering it though, obviously the pics aren't recent) Or are we after something that has some more linking 'lines' between the images?

Personally I think I'll be trying to get more linking lines between the shots, but I'm not completely in charge of this one so won't put that stamp upon people. I think there's enough guidlelines now, open to people to interpret now. :)

Hehehehe! :D

I don't think they 'quite' fit. The model is lying down, which means the three shots should 'really' be horizontal. If the model was standing then I reckon it would be tops.
I'm hoping for some decent weather this weekend to give it a go. Got my idea in mind but need to get out and put it into practise without drowning.

Ah so yours involves water! :p
Mine will hopefully be shot tomorrow night. Got it all planned out. Which means it'll go wrong.

Especially as you "Don't do photogr...." Oh shut up me. There's going to be a run in this challenge this weekend me thinks.
Everything up here (http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2008/03/07/2043_local-news.html) at the moment involves water.

I came, I saw, I got frustrated at how slow my computer works. So here it is. No C&C thank you. I going to Harvey Morom to get some more RAM and will try again when I come back.

What part of the process is it struggling with Tag? Good effort though, watch the horizons! ;) One thing I struggle with shooting the ones I've done is level horizons.

Booting, running, processing anything...
I only noticed the horizon after I'd put it all together. Can't be bothered to wait for the PC to straighten the horizon. It'll be quicker for the world to change first.

So here we go, about what 12 mins late, and therefore pointless, but I finally got out the house tonight with the camera to shoot this triptych. Blame it on interviews, having colds and removal men intent on ruining everything we own.
Oh, and the forum taking literally twenty minutes to post, and then bouncing back. :?

I'm not sure about it personally. The idea was to try and use the failing dusk as it vanished into proper night time to kinda portray emergence of light over an empty bleak scene. Almost as a 'the storm awakens' type of thing, but like I said I'm not sure. I do know I got properly soaking wet through, as it was a borderline storm kicking off with heavy rain when I shot it. Comments welcome.
