Anybody hear anything new regarding use of JPEG 2000? Does the latest version of Photoshop suport the format?

From what I've read, the revised JPEG format seems to offer good compression with low loss. I noticed that the new version of Paint Shop supports it and was wondering if JPEG 2000 has a future.

Hard to say. Depends on how it's accepted. No one uses it now. I say no one, but I imagine SOMEONE uses it, but it is definitely not in wide use that's for sure. JPEG2000 support started with PS7. I think it was 7.01 that added JPEG2000 support.

JPEG2000 is supported in Photoshop CS but it is a no cost optional extra, i.e. it is on the CD and you install in by hand.

Not sure if other applications support it, i.e. Internet Explorer, Netscape etc.

Cheers
