Thinking about getting the Canon E-1 handgrip for the 10D, would you use it alone, both the neck strap and the handgrip, neck strap alone, or none ? How do you guys, gals support your 10D, 1D, etc...is it useful ?

The 10D isn't compatible with the E-1 grip. You need the BG-ED3.

I think what he/she meant was the E-1 Handstrap. It works together with any vertical grip such as BG-ED3 etc.

Yes, I meant the hand strap..sorry. I do already have the Battery grip. (Much needed accessory)

Seems like it wound give you a little added security while shooting a lot of vertical shots. But, I don't have a need for one, I normally am shooting from a monopod.

To me, the hand strap is the only thing that makes sense. The 10D is a fairly heavy camera. With a lens of any size on it, it's a real load. Three things keep me from using the neckstrap: 1) it's too heavy to hang around one's neck for any prolonged period, 2) if you're doing any walking, all that bouncing can't be good for you or the camera, so you're going to end up holding it in your hand anyway, and 3) it allows you to carry the camera at your side with your arm relaxed (i.e. less fatigue).
The only value to a neckstrap that I can see is if you drop the camera, it won't hit the ground, unless the strap breaks or the weight of the rig tears your head off.

Same here. I've never actually hung a neck strap around my neck. I've always wrapped it around my wrist twice while shooting just in case I drop the camera.
Don't want to give up the neck strap as it does say "Digital" on it. :)
However, I've got the E1 strap on (back) order as carrying the camera around is becoming painful for long periods of time (I suffer badly from RSI).
Cheers

I use the hand strap on my D60. It gives me the added security when holding the camera and does not get in a way when I take vertical shots, especially with a monopod the hand strap is handy, (sorry for the pun). The neck strap was too short for me to look comfortably at the LCD display and was a potential hazard to scratch the display when camera was in the bag. I do not intend to go back to the neck strap again. I fully agree with earlier comments against the neck strap.
