Took my new 350D to donnington to try it out for the first time, and practise panning. The secound two images seem to have suffered a lot through re-sizing (just used XP standard feature, no option for quality) first one was done with PS.
Some C&C please ?

Wow, for a first time, really good pics!
I especially like the second one, although its had a little less panning movement that the others. My only suggestion at this stage would be to allow a little more space, when cropping, in the direction that the vehicle (or whatever you are photographing) is moving - to "travel" into. That way it doesn't look like its about to "leave" the frame.

Thanks for the comments, I have lots of photos, and I have no idea how to crop them for the best look, so thanks for that advise (some of them nearly are leaving the frame :) ! so not a lot I can do with them)
The second was done with quite a high shutter speed so that will be why the panning doesn't look as good (experimenting)
I'll try and resize them again and re-post because they don't look anywhere near as good as the originals.

THE best place to find examples of what you are trying to achieve is right here on this forum. Just browse through the pics on motorsports section for inspiration!

Just noticed you give no indication of the equipment that you used to take these pictures (other than camera) Which lens you used might also help others to help you.

Hi,

Lens is a basic Sigma 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC, saw some people with fantastic lenses there though!!

Paint Shop Pro, I'll post some more later, but I don't have anything to resize them on the laptop i'm using at the mo, and I don't want to use the XP resize as it hasn't done a great job.

I have replaced the last two with better re-sizes.

A Few More, some a little dark I think

Pretty good for a first time effort. I know its not always possible but try to get the light so the side you are shooting isnt in shadow. Its good to be able to see the wheels especialy if you are able to get wheel blur through using slow shutter speeds. Black wheels dont help you much with with this. Middle of the day shots are always hard becuase the light is so harsh and there is a lot of reflective light from the track. Try stopping the shot down a little, Experiment to see what suits the way your camera meters. This will help prevent highlights blowing out and saturate the colours more.

Good luck, look forward to seing more

Much better than I can do, all my race car pics have that parking lot feel to them, perhaps this weekend I will concentrate on panning.
