View Full Version : soft proof options in CS2 for i9900

So I have a printer and photoshop says I can simulate 4 i9900 devices for soft proofing i9900 plus MP1, PR1 PR2 or SP1. The first one looks very different to me the last 3 very subtle changes (I am a bit colour blind though). Canon says that this has nothing to do with them to ask Adobe so what do I use when? Different papers or what?

Rendering intent Relative Colorimetric (since the device works in Adobe 1998 workspace and I should not have any large colour shifts to worry about. No black point compensation (since the canon ICC profile guide (which is a bit old not) mentioned this). How is this thinking?

Part two

I have some glossy plus paper right now is the glossy pro paper a fair bit better? I am going to be printing 12 by 18 mostly.

Part three

How should I handle editing, leave soft proof on and have a print for just this printer or apply a layer at the end and try to fix the differences the printer produces at the end but allow me to change that layer for a lab in case I want a bunch of prints. If option two it seems I will have to edit twice but maybe I will find that the correction is just a bit of brightness or a little curve bumping and it will always be the same amount.

Adding the printer to my workflow looks essential to me. It has made colour correcting and contrast a bit more accurate for me. May prints are very close to what I am seeing. Of course I may not be seeing all there is to see. I have not worked in colour very much and my critical faculties for it are probably a bit immature.

Thanks for any advice someone may offer. I could test endlessly but I hope some longer term experience will be able to tell me what works with a variety of prints.
