Was out tonight with the 5D. Decided to try and get some pics of the Tribute in Lights they hold every year in NYC. I live 2 blocks from WTC, so this is very "close to home" for me.

I was actually talking to security about that and he said you should be able to see them from about 20 miles out? Dunno if that's true, but sounded reasonable to me when you see them up close.

Oooooh, you have me seething with jealousy! ;) Those photos are spectacular -- especially #1. Plus, they're photojournalistic and will have historical significance. I was just in NYC and never captured anything as cool as this.

VERY NICE! And yeah 2 blocks away is a bit too close. Thank you for your efforts to share us this memorable moment.

that is true. i live in CT (right now im a college student in VT)
anyway last year we were out on a sailboat on 9/11/05 and then i saw 2 light beams over the water. i thought it might be the WTC site so we got the compass out and and we figured out they were in the direction of NYC. we are 99% sure it was the light beams from the WTC site.

These were from last year. Taken with the Rebel. I believe there are two arrays of 44 xenon lights each, with each light putting out 7,000 watts of power.

Fantastic shots, first time I've seen a close-up of the lights.
I think it would be good if these light could be incorporated in the re-development of the site to be come a permanent memorial.

Nice shots. They sure require a lot of electricity, but it's not in vain .
