Hi everyone,

Been searching the archives and still don't understand how to do this. Have purchased a Canon A60
digital camera that creates short video clips. It seems to be create AVI files, but they cannot viewed with standard Windows viewers. It says it needs some kind of codex mjpg to view it. Is there any way to convert from this format to a standard AVI/MPEG that anyone can view. Hopefully a free utility????

Thanks a lot - sorry if this seems like a repeat!

this worked for me
I used a program I downloaded off of download.com called AVI Compression Converter, and a second called TMPEGENC.

1. Opened AVI Compression Converter
2. As an input file I used my AVI from my PowerShot S30
3. Changed the video compression to 'DV Video Encoder'
4. Checked don't change audio compression
5. Chose an Output file
6. Clicked Go
++++++++++++++++++
7. Opened TMpegEnc
8. Put my newly encoded *.AVI in the video source
9. Tweaked the settings to my liking.
10 Encoded to MPEG

May seem like a hassle, but you can apply a bunch of different templates to it to maximize filesize, quality etc. I really don't mind doing it. If you find a few settings you like, just save them and open them in TMPEGENC and you don't have to reset it. Thought I'd give my two cents!
