High school amateur play mostly shot with the sigma ex 28-70 f2.8 DG and the 70-200 f4L.
Most iso settings were between 800 and 1600 resized for the web.
C&C welcome.

Nice work! It can be a real challenge, especially with f/4 glass.
In contrasty situations like that, I tend to expose a little brighter and let some of the highlights blow, to bring out a bit more detail in the shadows. That could be personal preference as much as anything.

Hey curtis, saw some of your theatre work, great stuff.
Who said a 300D can't take great high iso piccies?

Who said a 300D can't take great high iso piccies?Well, it depends on your reference point, I guess. Compared to a 5D they would be considered garbage. Compared to film, the 300D kicks butt!
It should also be noted that all of the shots on my website have been run through Noise Ninja and downsized to 600 x 400. Downsizing is the best noise killer out there. Even taking a 6MP image down to 1800 x 1200 to print a 4 x 6 makes most of the noise go away.

Excellent! Did really well with the poor lighting too!

Thanks, I rigged up a small mini tripod which I used like a rifle butt on my shoulder which allowed me to take slower than ususal shutter speeds and a largish zoom, particularly when using the 70-200 f4L

Wow... those are really clear. I haven't tried Noise Ninja. I've used another program a few times, but most of the time they tend to get rid of noise well, but decrease clarity.

I didn't sharpen the pics using usm but I added more contrast and a touch of sharpening with noise ninja which then not only shaprens the image but also gets rid of the excessive noise.
It takes some practise to get it right but the rewards speak for themselves.
Even blown up to A3 the shots don't look bad at all considering the iso levels.
It takes practise and you have to make sure the exposure is right.
Anything underexposed will really show up.
