More commonly known as the Britcar 24

Silverstone served up some fantastic weather, although it comletely ruined my well-planned sunrise shots up by being covered in thick fog at 5am on Sunday...4 hours behind the Safety car ensued thus giving the organisers an idea for next year. The British Safety Car endurance cup ! :D

This year's overall winners, the Duller Motorsport Team in their BMW Z4M Coupe, shot over the top of the fence on the banking overlooking the exit of Club Corner.

There was some lovely early evening sunshine on Saturday for the early part of the race. This is last year's winning car, the Moslser GT3RS of Rollcentre Racing. Unfortunately everything that went right for them last year went wrong in a big way this year.

Team Scandal also had a torrid time in their Prosport LM3000 and at one point they lost a wheel !

Team 911Virgin.com led for a good part of the night, through the fog-bound early hours of Sunday and were looking good for a podium finish until the Northamptonshire Gremlins got hold of their 911 GT3 Cup..

The other Mosler GT3RS, belonging to Eclipse Motorsport

A bit of Aussie V8 Muscle. The #25 Ford Falcon GT3 which managed to finish in....25th place.

Into the night...

The #77 Honda Civic Type R managed to finish in a superb 7th overall. Considering it was up against some very expensive machinery indeed it's a very impressive result for a clog on wheels :D

C&C welcome, thanks for looking. A full gallery is online (link in sig as per usual)

I'll post some shots from the Motor Racing Legends and Dutch Supercars later.

Cheers Dave :)

It's either fuel from the overflow or hydraulic fluid from the on-board Jack system i think.

Nice shots Geoff
I can never get tired looking at the Dullar MS Z4M, it's well 'phat'
That Ford Ford Falcon GT3 was running throttle bodies.
I'm so pleased that Cartune Racing CTR finished top in it's class, after all it's managed and part driven by my track driving instructor.

Do you use a seperate flash gun for the night shots?
What ISO setting did you use?

Thanks everyone :)

Yep, i had the Sigma 500 Super whatever they call it on the camera for the flash shots. I'd like to have been a bit closer but fences are fences  . ISO on the posted shots was 3200.

Not a great deal to be honest Peter but that's more to do with what i shoot most than any problem with the lens. I bought the 15-30 last year and i've hardly used that too. I've been thinking of changing to a 24-70 f2.8 or 24-105L IS.

It depends what you want the lens for. I used to use the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 as a pits/paddock lens but nowadays I use the 24-105L IS. It's a much better length at the long end for driver candids and with the IS I can use it at much lower light levels in pit garages than an f/2.8 AND get a useful depth of field.

Goods shots, btw, Geoff. The Beamer coming out of Club is my favourite.

Cheers Glenn. I quite like that angle at Club. Even though you're above the cars there it doesn't look too bad. I made a rare venture into the world of Manual mode over the weekend too with some nice results (not posted though :D ). I'll be experimenting a bit more in future.

My reasoning for the 24-105L stems from sheer laziness. If i can't be bothered carrying a load of kit i could pack the 24-105 and 100-400 and have almost every eventuality covered :D

I have lots of different camera bag configurations for different events. Track racing gets one combination of lenses, hill climbing another, canoe polo another, rallying yet another… The 24-105mm f/4L seems to end up in all of them – it’s such a useful lens that I don’t like not having it with me. To be honest, I have lots of alternative lenses in the same range as the 24-105mm and most of them are better in some way than it. None of them do everything as well though and short of carrying a huge bag of primes and zooms around “just in case”, the 24-105mm is the best option.

Thanks for the comments :)

The safety car was sent out due to very thick fog, particularly on the Hangar Straight. The concern was that if anyone went off there was no way the other drivers could see what had happened thus putting Marshals and Drivers at risk.

The stickers are all reflective and lit up by flash. All the pro's were using it so i had a go. I was playing around with power settings just to see how they came out :)
