Does anybody familiar with two new books by Michael Freeman "Light and Lighting" and "Portrait Photography"? They are a part of "Digital Photography Expert" series, more books in the series are expected to be released next year.

I have his "The Image" book, which is excellent. I wonder how useful those new books and at what level of skills they are oriented.

That is why Barnes and Noble put those comfy chairs next to the book shelfs.

I would also suggest that you look at Scott Kelby's Book "The Photoshop Book For Digital Photographers" (He is having an update come out for Photoshop CS with this book). It is really great with lots of good ideas.

Unfortunately, a couple of B&N I checked did not have it in stock. Neither they had Kelby's book, which I know is very popular.
By the way, how advanced is Kelby's book? Does he reveal many sectrets that cannot be found from free sources? For example, http://luminous-landscape.com/ has many useful tutorials. Is it really different from techniques described in the book?

I got both of Scott Kelby's "CS" updated books for xmas.
Photoshop CS book for digital photographers is meant to showcasse many of the capabilities of photoshop that are often overlooked or underutilized, but which can make significant differences in your image editing. So far I have learned a dozen techniques and am not to chapter three yet.

The other book, "Photoshop CS Downand Dirty Tricks" is just that, a compilation of fast-access methodologies to get results you are looking for.

I'd say both of these books are well worth the price and will raise the level of my knowledge and my digital photo processing skills.

By the way, my local Borders store just got both of these in stock. They have been in short supply, since they werejust released in early Dec.

Another excellent Photoshop CS book I have looked at is the "Adobe Photoshop CS Classroom in a book", which also just hit the shelves here. It will definately be my next book purchase.

None of these deals with photo technique, which is the topic of the books in question in the original post above. I'll have to look in the photography section to see if those are at Borders. They may not have the comfy arm chairs and sofa's, but they do have a coffee bar with bistro seating where books can be "evaluated" prior to purchase.

Agreed, Michael Freeman's "The Image" is superb, I'd like to read more of his work. He also has this book (and website), has anyone read it?

I have Martin Evening's book, "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 For Photographers". It comes with a CD-ROM that includes quicktime tutorials of some of the techniques in the book. I haven't read a whole lot of it though. I really should. What I did read was excellent.

I haven't heard of the above mentioned books, but then again, I haven't really been looking for any new reading. I should probably check them out... it's always a good thing to learn more.
