So, I am thinking about buying this Canon Rebel XT. I am looking for any advise about the camera or the site. I am pretty much a noob when it comes to SLR cameras.

Every review about this site is terrible. They use fraid, bait-and-switch, and a host of other tactics. Avoid at all costs.

A brand new rebel XT for $580 should have tipped you off. As usual, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Buy from bhphotovideo, adorama or another reputable seller. That way, you won't get ripped off.

Chris,

Firstly, welcome to POTN.

Good camera, however its replacement the Rebel XTi has just come out so you may want to look at that.

A good place to check out online sellers is resellerratings.com and according to THIS (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller3471.html), I would stay far away from them.

B & H is probably the most reputable seller of photo euqipment on the net, so you might give them a try.

Good luck

I had my XT for sale and even had it listed here in the Classifieds... a local friend said they wanted it, so I closed the thread there. Then friend had unexpected veterinary bill so can't buy my XT. Its black, under 5000 clicks (I had listed it under 6000 but its under 5), well cared for. I got a 30D and just a hobbyist so don't need spendy backup camera. XT just sits in box... Comes with everything originally in box, plus has eyepeice extender (a must for me!), extra longer life battery. PM or email me if you are interested... I wasn't going to list in in the Classifeds here again, had decided to just keep it or go on ebay later... and then I saw your post, so decided to answer... In any case, best of luck, you will love the XT!

Peregrin, always use resellerratings.com - that's been a standard here for years! :) It's one of the best ways to tell how a company treats its customers.

Looks like it...

And AFAIK www.newegg.com also is a reputable dealer that was endorsed by several forum members ... do a search for the name in the 'marketplace' forum to see for yourself.

And welcome to the forum :D

Best regards,
Andy

I have heard that with the release of the rebel xti, there should be atleast a $100 price drop on the rebel xt. Now my question is, do you guys think i should hold off buying the one on newegg? $700 for brand new, with 1 year warranty + free shipping.

I like newegg, I have delt with them a few times now... like two weeks ago when I bought a gig of ram for my MacBook Pro.

Chris,

As you stated, NewEgg is a good vendor and their deal is pretty good considering they also include a 2g CF card. Only problem is they're out of stock and with the advent of the Rebel XTi, who knows when/if they'll get more. By waiting, you run the risk of not getting what you want, i.e. the black as opposed to silver.

Although I haven't been following price recently, I believe the XT has already fallen. When I bought mine (silver w/kit lens) 1 1/2 years ago, I got the best price around at that time of $899. Usually it was selling for $999. Now, you can buy the kit, if available for $699, which is $200 less than the Ti.

I'd suggest you check on pricegrabber.com or one of the other market searches for a price & vendor, but do not use those sites ratings for the stores. Always go back to resellerratings.com or http://www.bizrate.com/ratings_guide/guide.html.

Good luck

The newegg deal (they are more than reputable) is good considering you get the 18-55 kit lens and a 2gb memory card. But, if you don't want that stuff, you can get just the black XT body from buydig for $609.

Chris, don't know where you are located, but Samy's camera in L.A. has the XT w/kit lens for $599, no sales tax. This was from their ad in todays L.A. Times. They also have an online store, don't know if they have the same offer.
