I bouhgt a Powershot S30 a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying it. My new camera has already travelled close to 10,000 miles with me. Check out my gallery at http://www.pbase.com/rbndave/travel_pictures

Please tell me what you think. I am just a beginner with zero photography experience. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

David:

Here are some random comments:

*Your pictures range from great to not particularly interesting. Which is to be expected for a newcomer to photography. Definitely they show your attention to composition, and as you get further into it your techniques will undoubtedly become more refined.
*The Phoenix sunset is a washed out photo with very little interest. You seemed to be highlighting the myriad intersections of wires, antennae etc, but the overall effect is 'let's move on'.
*The snow sculptures are magical, great color, great background lighting, very interesting shots that make one want to explore their details.
*The ice sculpture has me confused. It is an interesting shot, allright, but I fear for the wrong reasons. For one, the centering of it (or lack thereof) makes me want to see what I am missing. The background throws me off, the lit sign is jarring to the overall effect. Still, I find myself studying it, so for that alone it is an 'effective' shot. But it needs refinement to be a great shot.

Hope these comments help. Great start on your photographic journey overall.

Hey Dave

Great stuff -- I hope you liked my home town !

I did not even get to the ice scuptures this year! Too busy. But your multi-colored nite shot is as good as the real thing. You got then all at once. Proof that the G2 cn get the shot and you can bracket, etc to give yourself some choice.

As a mountain biker (and a guy who receives downhill pics from buddies bombing the mountains in British Columbia, you one road shot is does not convince me to take that trail.

Come on back to Ottawa. We will show you the Gatineau Hills... but... bring your pepper spray, the bears may be around the next corner.

Thanks for the comments guys. Sorry I didn't post earlier, I have been away from my computer for a month. Howie, if I ever get a long overnight in Ottawa, I'll take you up on seeing those bears.
