Has anyone run across this problem? Two days ago I was doing a session and I went to delete a file that was on the preview screen and the screen went blank without asking to CANCEL/DELETE? Then at times if I try to get the playback to fire up, it does nothing. Ditto with the menu button. And of course, at other times everything works just fine. Which will obviously be what happens if I send it to Canon. Any ideas?

Change to a different CF card and see if it still does the same.

I did the rundown of the normal "quick solutions". Tried 3 different CF cards, and changed out the batteries (both). Any other suggestions?

You could try re-flashing the latest firmware.
There may be some risk however as you seem to be having CF related problems...

I wouldn't do that quite yet.
First check the CF pins inside your camera and make sure one isn't bent. We have had a rash of bent pins as of late. If that checks out okay, try formatting a card on your computer and then place it in the camera.
Can you shoot? Do you get any errors?

another idea...
last time my flash 380EX suddenly stopped working, i changed the batteries, nothing, i took them out for a minute, nothing, not a light, not a sound. I began to cry (not really), took the batteries out and prepared to take it to some service center, an hour later, i gave it a try again, put the batteries in, and it worked...
Try the same with you d60, take (all) the batteries out (is there some small batterie so as to keep configs?), wait an hour or more, then try again...
as said, just an idea... but it worked already with me some times with different electronic 'toys'

I don't really agree with the "format the card on your computer" idea. In my experience the D60 does not like any other formatting but its own. In fact I would like to know if you are regularly formatting your card with the camera before starting using it. Not doing it could be a cause for malfunction. Again, this is just my own experience with the D60 and CF cards.

Not sure if this is the same issue or not, but I had a similar problem. When I was reviewing some shots, the camera would get to a particular frame and basically "shut down". I had to remove the battery and re-insert to even power the camera up again. After searching through some forums, I found that someone said that if you ever use something like a windows viewer to view the shots on your CF card, and perhaps changed the orientation on them (landscape to portrait, for example), you'd get an error (something like "invalid format") and it would cause problems with the card. I ended up formatting the card with my d60 and haven't had a problem since. I'm always careful now to download the shots from my CF card to my p.c.'s hard-drive and view them from there (never straight from the card).
Hope this helps...

How about connecting the camera to your computer and try to capture shots that way (remote capture or other software). If it happens when connected to the computer you can almost rule out CF issues. I would say give it a few tries. I would almost say it is not CF issues anyway if it is also happening to the menu.
Also, I can't imagine why the firmware can't be flashed again. Maybe some how the software was corrupted. I would make this as a last resort though.
Good luck. I hope you figure it out without sending it to Canon because I plan to keep mine for a while and don't want to run into such a problem.

My D60 loves cards formatted on my computer and has NEVER had any problems with them. My 10D likes them too.
