How many pics a minut is the A70 suppose to be able to take?

Press the func key (but not in auto mode I think) and select multishot mode.
No of shots depends on resolution and filesize. From about 3 shots in 2 secs at max resolution superfine to 100's of shots at about 2/sec at 640*480 on normal.

It's also quite a bit faster if you turn the flash off...

The actual speed of the sequential shooting depends on flash setting, size of picture, compression used, complexity of the image, shutter speed used, LCD use, and perhaps other functions.
Using flash requires flash recharge time.
Shutter speed may limit (15 second exposure will result about 3 photos per minute.)
The larger the file size, the longer it takes to write it to the card.
LCD use takes processing cycles.
Functions such as AF, and exposuring may also affect performance (if they are performed between shot, I don't know off hand.)
Expect about 2 frames per second on average.

So I can get faster shots with lower settings? I always shoot at the highest setting.
