Just as the title says, my best friend owns a pet shop. Being an animal lover this is fun. And, being as that I'm here, I'm sure you can figure I like to take pictures.

So I bring my 350D in often when I go to visit. Thing of it is, I honestly know jack about post processing. I don't shoot in raw just for this reason. But I didn't want to post these pics to talk about raw, I wanted to see if anyone would want to comment on them, maybe even give me some ideas on what I could be doing better for processing.

General "scene" info- the lighting in the current shop sucks, plain and simple. Luckily we're moving to a brand new shop as soon as we're done prepping it. Anywho, yeah lighting sucks and I don't own a flash (save for the one built in). All these pics were shot with my 50mm 1.8 for the reasons above. The only pic with a flash is the one of the McCaw (first one) ;)

Thank you very muchly for any and all feedback :D

8- I liked the general composition of the burmese in it's tank, but the focus wasn't grand IMO

All the middle birds are slightly out of focus, probably from the glass. Maybe use manual focus? Don't shoot with a light in the background like the Macaw shot. Try for smaller aperture and higher speed, which means a good Flash.

Focus is most important though and it takes practice. Make sure the diopter thing on the viewfinder is set right. It's easy to forget it's there and it helps a lot to get it right.

I've never really messed with the diopter, thanks for the tip :D I'll give that a go.

Thanks for the feedback

I was having focus problems. It looked good, but they were all a little off. The trouble was, I need glasses to read, so I had them on and just kept them on to use the viewfinder. Things were a little blurry, but I thought I was still getting it right on. Then I looked in there without them and it was a total blur. I set it for naked eyeball and since then, my pics are in focus. It's an easy mistake to make. :)

too inexperienced to critique, but i do like the bird in the third photo, very nice. A tip though, put a space between photos, and number them.

I wear contacts, so I never really gave a thought about how that would effect what I'm seeing. I'm thinking I'll take them out today and try and work closely with what I'm seeing. Thanks again :)

I just edited it to number them, thanks for the tip :D

The bird you're refering to has to be the easiest bird to photo in the entire shop. He's a caique, and the most relaxed bird I've ever seen. For the picture I had him perched on my hand with my arm outstretched. He just sat there and looked around for me :) Now if only I can get the scarlet mccaw to do the same lol

maybe not quite so tight, but that is a personal thing, but it is heaps better, the background doesn't then distract, the whole focus is on the bird
