I have just purchased a 300d. I have a bag full of lenses for my olympus om2 - can I obtain an adaptor to allow me to use these lenses? Is there any value in doing this?

I've not heard of such a thing. I have heard of adapters for older Canon (FD) lenses, but nothing close to what you're looking for.

If such an adapter did exist,. (unlikely) it would of course render autofocus non funtional.

OM lenses must mount 2mm further away than the eos lenses so in very basic theory it may be possible.I have tried lots of lenses for the possiblity of using on my eos but not OM's (yet)
OK-after measuring an OM lens against an eos i'd say it's possible to get an adapter made that would work with full infinity focus.Designing it would be the hardest part, getting it turned up ata machinist dead easy.I'll try doing it one day but not yet....

Sounds like a case of making a sow's ear out of a silk purse. We might have just crossed that fine line between a hobby and insanity.

Yeah, there's only value in doing it if the lenses are particularly nice ones

Insane or not, he's got a full bag of lens, so why not try to use them? :)

'Course the other allternative is to sell them on ebay and have lots of cash to buy canon lenses or whatever. It is fun to experiment though...

That's the smart thing to do.
Trying to use those archaic lenses on such a high-tech camera is like, well...a waste of effort, IMO. There's some old die-hard film freak just dying to get his hands on those lenses. In this case, eBay is your friend.

Adapters for EOS cameras DO EXIST. I have seen them in use. I'm sure Gene W. doesn't mind me posting thishere. If you have the time, please check out the forum also. It's a great photography website!

Update: It is no longer necessary to order this adapter directly from Tokyo. Stephen Gandy now stocks this item and sells it from the US on his CameraQuest site: www.cameraquest.com
I have been a satisfied customer of CameraQuest on several occasions and can recommend Stephen as one of the good guys among online merchants.

There are definite benifits to using old lenses on an eos,it's not all a backward step.
I still like to use several old lenses on mine such as the nikkor 105/2.5 etc.Focussing manually on one of those is georgeous and well worth doing just for the sake of it.
Just put the camera in program mode, set the aperture on the lens, focus and go for it.Even the flash meters correctly!
