I work here in SF and I don't think I've ever seen such a thing. :rolleyes:
Nice exposure, though :)That bench is a Double Ballard or large cleat used to tie up ships with the 3 " lines the moore alongside the docks with...a bit unusual in shape and use but standard practice in almost every seaport! In the 70's I tied up to lots of those in SF while working with American President Lines... Cool shot by the way, although I would crop it down to just what is important in the photo....

My comment was in jest. Living in a seaport area, I've seen those countless times along the waters edge.
Getting the official name of the cleat is cool though :) :)
