Right,
I've rung Jessops, and have reserved the LAST 350D in Black they have/will be getting.
Heres my shopping list.
350D Black with kit Lens
Lowerpro Bag
1gb Memory Card
UV Filter
Cir Polariser
That should be enough to start off my expensive photography hobby.
Unless anyone else can think of anything. anything major i may have forgotten?

Sorry - I have a habit of reading too quickly and making an idiot of myself.
Enjoy the camera - I took over 10,000 pics in 11 months with my 350D - and most of them were with the kit lens.

I've gotten just over 900 photos with two batteries. Most of the time it is over 800. And extra battery or two definitely comes in handy. ;)

Was in Jessops today and noticed how expensive their memory is!
Cheapest 1GB CF card in the store was £65 and it was unbranded.
I bought a 1 GB card yesterday from amazon, the same card was £75 more expensive in Jessops, you could buy a nifty fifty for that

Do Jessops still price match? I have a feeling they stopped it, then I heard it was down to each individual store manager to decide - some did, some didn't.

I managed to get them (Edinburgh store) to match an internet price of £539.99 for a 400d today - took a few printouts along with me.
Apparently their price matching policies vary from store to store, you've got to remember that they are under no obligation to compete with online deals so I guess I was lucky.
Plus if you go in to the store with a bad attitude I don't think there's much chance the sales person will be interested in doing you any favours...

Buy it then see how it goes, imagine a tripod would be a good start. Then your first lens SHOULD be the 50mm f/1.8, its awesome for the price!
Bought all my stuff from jessops so far, always check here before you buy in the UK.

Has a 10% off code for Jessops (not on the body I'm afraid). Also bought +2 years warranty/accidental damage insurance, seems worth it, if the camera breaks in 2 years I'll get a 450D :D

I'll second a battery grip- lots of extra power and makes a world of difference when shooting in portrait.

dont know if you have a photographic store called wildings near you. they do the canon batt grip for £79 it makes a hell of a difference to the 350 in the handling dept. also look here for a spare batt £9.99. they are also cheap for memory cards. i use them all the time

Yes, get a grip! Turns a 350D into a real camera. Much nicer to use!

You're getting a circular polariser for the kit lens?
As far as I'm aware this might be a bit hard to use, since, unless I'm mistaken, the front element of the kit lens rotates when focusing. This can make the use of a circular polariser a bit tricky.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong!

Not all that hard unless you're in AI Servo mode. And even then, just use a spare finger to hold the polarizer ring in the desired orientation.
