try Adobe Photshop or Macromedia Fireworks
They are the 2 best products on the market for graphics IMO

Try Express Thumbnail Creator. You can get a shareware version from their website http://www.express-soft.com/etc/. This software is intended for creating web image galleries but it would as well serve your needs.
The good thing about this software, you can resize all files in directory in one shot. You specify the directory containing original images, target directory, the new dimensions of the images, compression rate, etc. And in a few minutes you will get a directory containing smaller images.
You don't have to open each file separately, wait until it is opened and then click "save as". It's just to much trouble if you want to convert more than a few files.

Did your A70 come with ZoomBrowser software? It contains a tool for decreasing pic size for e-mailing.

Start on main menu-internet-e-mail image-change image size.

Try IrvanView 3.85.. it's freeware.. you can also retouch the pix.. like filter, level, rotate etc.. etc.. best free image viewer IMHO.. you can get it here http://www.irfanview.com/
