I just noticed that some edited images I view in ZoomBrowser that have Portrait orientation are now being rotated and they show a small rotation icon. It is not that way for all of the Portrait photos and I checked the images and they appear correctly using Windows Explorer (thumb and full size) and PhotoShop. I can't figure this out. Any ideas as to how I can get all the images that should be rotated to display correctly in ZoomBrowser. Both thumb and full size do not rotate as they should.

Examples? Are you, by any chance, holding the camera aimed downward?

No Jon, I a not having a problem with image orientation. Everything has been fine but now that I opened the library in ZoomBrowser some of the images are not rotated, but they are fine when viewed in Windows Explorer and fine when viewed in PhotoShop. These are images already on my computer that show correct orientation everywhere except ZB.

I don't follow? Are these photos you've edited one place or another by any chance?

Here is the flow of things:
* Used Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard to Import photos form card. This i how I being all photos into the computer. Camera is set to Auto Rotate.
* Open photos in PhotoShop. Edit, crop, process. All photos open with correct orientation. I never have to rotate manually. Save edits.
* Can view photos using Windows Explorer, PhotoShop or any other image viewing program and all photos open with correct orientation.
* Opened ZoomBrowser the other day and started using it to view histograms, camera info, etc. Noticed that some images (not all) that are Portrait orientation are in landscape position and show a small rotate icon in the top left corner of the thumb. I have the option to rotate them if I want but the point is I should nto have to. They are already rotated and every other programs know it but ZB.

Whatever is changing it is happening as part of my editing process. When I look at the originals right from the camera they appear with the correct orientation in ZB, displaying the rotate icon, indicating that they are being rotated based on rotation information in the file.
So the question is what is being stripped out when I edit and what in particular is affecting it since it is not happening with all the images that require rotation?

Windows Explorer doesn't recognize the image rotation flag; what's happening is that ZB recognizes the IR flag in all cases; Explorer never recognizes it, and PS recognizes it, then saves the image with the rotation applied - but without changing the IR flag. PS then recognizes that it's worked on the file and ignores the IR flag on subsequent operations.

Hmm ok, so what does that mean in terms of what I should or shouldn't be doing?
I always have a folder with the originals and then a folder of edits in that. In every instance the originals are just fine and display as they should at all times, but the images in my edits folder that should be rotated are not in every instance.

Not what you can/should be doing, just what you should be expecting. You'll need to determine which of your applications act how, or else stop using the image rotation flag.

Windows Explorer doesn't recognize the image rotation flag
Jon,
Unless we are talking about 2 different things Windows Explorer is recognzing the rotate flag. I just did a test. I took a few shots in Portrait orientation. I used ZoomBrowser to acquire the images. The came in as they should. Then I went out to the actual folder using Windows Explorer and the thumbs and images have the correct orientation.
So when I edit images and then save them again, remaning and placing them in my Edits folder, what can or should I do to either hold on to the rotation information or to ignore it and just save the file in the orientation it is in, which is already portrait?

I haven't found Explorer to recognize the rotate flag when I import via Downloader Pro; haven't used ZB for a couple of years since usign it adds a couple of steps to my workflow. I'm afraid to try to explain what you're seeing, I'd need specific examples (import via ZB in Portrait - fine. Edit with PS - flipped over 90 deg. more (180 deg. from camera orientation)).
