Last week, I took my camera to a bar for open mic night. I never shot any photos of this type before and I'm looking for some feedback. The lighting in the club was very poor. The best shutter speed I could get was 1/60 with ISO turned all the way up to 1600. This was fast enough for my 50mm lens, but the shots I took with my 70-200mm turned out a bit fuzzy.

I will probably take my camera to this club again sometime in the near future. Other than using a flash, do you have any suggestions for getting better shots?

I love this guy's guitar.

Sorry to post a gallery on the critque forum. I know that drives some people nuts. Thanks for any comments.

Dave,

I sense a great atmosphere from your photos

Although I have never used one I believe a monopod can get you the use of an extra stop or two.

Which 70 to 200 do you have - f4 or f2.8 ? L series ?

Thanks Robin,

My 70-200 lens is a Sigma. I love this lens. It scores very close to the canon 70-200 f2.8 L on all the tests, but costs about 1/3 as much. If it had IS it would be perfect.

Thanks for the monopod advice. I just bought a giant tripod. The tripod is great, but a little big for travel. I think I need a monopd to compliment it. Does the spending ever end?

I picked up a monopod because I enjoy hiking and running around. I usually need the extra stability but running around with the tripod isn't always the easiest thing.
