Will a 420EX do 2nd curtain in slave mode?

The one thing I really miss on the 300D is 2nd curtain flash support. I used it a lot on my G3 with the 420EX. I shoot a lot of my daughters' dances and get good results with 2nd curtain.

I'm going to get a 550EX for Christmas, and I know I can do 2nd curtain with the 300D and the 550EX, but my question is can I also do it when using the 420EX as a slave flash with the 550EX as master?

I thought I would setup the 420EX to the side of the stage and use the 550EX on camera, but I still would want 2nd curtain effects.

I just tried a second curtain flash with a 420ex and a st-e2 transmitter. It fired on first curtain. The same set-up may work with a 550 triggering the slave, but I doubt it????
