Haven't spotted this one before. Thought it looked rather interesting until I found out it's a biting black fly- Simulium sp. About 6mm body length.

Cool looking fly! I wonder if those pointy bits at the end of his face are straws for sucking blood from whatever he feeds on??

Is that the same black fly that are real pests in the Canadian woods in the spring?

The fly looks like it got crossed with a stink bug, with that carapace looking part behind the head.

Think I'd have to have rigor mortice to have an arm that colour ;)
but agree it is a bit of a mixed up looking bug.
