I converted the photo to B&W using the channel mixer and added grain for old photo look/mood. I'm not sure if it works. I would appreciate your comments.

It looks really good. Except maybe adding the grain has made it look a wee bit under exposed (the snow is often quite grey.)
Nice effect adding the grain.

A bit too much lower foreground and the composition does not draw un to the house .. re "the spin" in the title.
Also the light is flat -- which can be a prob in winter scenes such as this.
Good. Could be great in sunlight with a somewhat different shooting position.

Hmmm sorry, but it doesn't quite do it for me although I think the technique is good. The shot is too confusing and the B&W doesn't really take the confusion out. The twigs in the foreground are really busy but there isn't much of interest there. The house is in a nice position in the shot but still remains a bit obscure.
Or perhaps, I'm missing something

thanks for your comments, Martin and Howie.
I just liked the contrasts: structure (house) against busy, "chaotic" forest, vertical lines at the top part of the picture vs. diagonal lines at the lower part. black and white is just another contrast.
But may be it's not as effective as I hoped.
