Where's my 6 MBs ? (A700)

Hi Guys ,
This is no doubt a dumb question but... :)
On settings of superfine and large (2816x2112)
images are only 2.87 MB max...
Is the 6 MB the sensor size rather than image capture size ?

6 MegaPixels is the sensor size, it does not mean that the images will be 6MegaBytes
