There is now a company selling Drebels that have had the built in IR "hot mirror" removed and replaced with an optical flat to improve the response characteristics to certain near IR wavelengths. They do this for Astrophotography. makes sense in a way, as a dedicated, purpose built astrophotographic camera in the 6MP range would be much. much more expensive

There is also another company online that is modifying Canon DSLRs that have has the hot mirror removed and replaced with IR bandpass filters such as the R72 etc. The link escapes me for those guys.,

A $900 dedicated IR camera would be nice, but my family insists on eating at least once per day.
