I just purchased the VP2060. I put a newly formatted 12G IBM hard disk in. I loaded the latest USB driver on my Win98SE laptop and have also updated the Firmware from this machine. I then used thier utility to re-format the drive from my Win XP Pro desktop machine.

I am able to use the VP2060 to copy pictures from my compact flash cards. I can connect the VP2060 to my Win98SE laptop and copy them to the local hard drive.

PROBLEM:
When I connect the VP2060 to my WinXP Pro desktop machine the drives all show up in My Computer fine. I can browse the folders and files on the VP2060 fine. As soon as I try to copy from the VP2060 to the local hard drive things go bad. The copy begins, but never finishes, instead the window just hangs forever and goes into "not responding". I can reproduce this same thing over and over. I have not been able to complete a file copy even one time from the VP2060 to my WinXP Pro desktop machine.

Is anyone else having this problem?

This thing is pretty much useless if it won't work on my XP machine! It may end up for sale real soon here.

The best I can offer is this,. it is by no means difinitive (in Windows,. nothing ever is)

...but it may be an unhappy meeting of USB peripherals in this case. I have had similar problmes with particular USB card readers and WinXP.

In one instance, I only had trouble if I used a specific USB hub (the one built into my monitor :( )

I can use my Wacom tablet plugged into the monitors USB hub.... but NOT my card reader?

Are you using a hub?

Lastly,. to eliminate WinXPs tomfoolery as the culprit (as opposed to the hardware) we can use the DOS Xcopy command to copy some files from your hard drive to the Xdrive... or vice versa... if this coppy oiccurs without a hitch,. then you have isolated the problem to a WinXP "undocumented feature" (MicroShafts official term for a "bug" )

Works fine on my machines (XP and W2K). Can you copy files from one folder on the X-drive to another on the X-drive?

BTW, I have the X-drive II.

Not sure if this will help, I had real trouble with my X Drive, I formated it from win XP and 2K and had problems it was only when I formated the drive using FAT 32 that it worked and had no problems. As I say not sure if this was just luck ?

Thanks for all the tips.

Looks like it could be a USB problem. I am not using a hub, but my motherboard has 2 "onboard" connections and 4 more on "headers". Well, I was using one of the 4 "header" plugs. After switching to one of the "onboard" plugs everything is working good so far!

Ahh,.. excellent,. it may even be that the cable to the "header" is inferior in some way...
