View Full Version : I'm a jacka$$... :(

While bending down to take off my shoes as I entered a mosque, I somehow managed to drop my Tamron 28-75! It landed on hard marble and I could tell by the sound that it wasnt good...

I immediately inspected it and found out to my dismay that I had broken the Autofocus mechanism. The motor grinds away and it seems to focus a bit but then it gets stuck. Other than that the lens still works, and seems to be ok when I use it in manual mode. Any ideas on how easy/difficult a repair this will be and how much it will cost to get it fixed?

You should put in a call to Tamron. Only they can tell you. If they're anything like Canon though they won't give an estimate over the phone, but will tell you to send it in for inspection.

Divine intervention. It was done for a purpose. Get the 24-70L.

Yeah, Insha Allah...

I guess this is what I get for being an infadel, maybe I should convert... hehe.

All joking aside, I am seriously bummed. It sucks cuz there is no one for me to blame, except me for being a clutz. Oh well, such is life.

You guys are talking as if the lens is already totally dead. Should I give up all hope about getting it repaired? Is it a case of the repair costing almost as much as a new lens or something?

joking aside im sorry to hear of your accident :( I would certainly investigate getting it fixed, obviously i couldn't help you by telling you what i think it might cost, if it could even be done, but there is a good chance its fixable.

Dont feel so bad, i recently dropped less than a month old 70-200 2.8 L IS and cracked its front element. The lens is now with Canon for repairs. Hopefully hearing there are bigger goof ups than your's will make you feel a little better :D

Ive gotten over it, so would you, just get it fixed from Tamron.

Time to wear Velcro gloves and line your lenses with the hook side tape...

Sorry to hear of your loss. Hopefully it won't be too much. I've gotten away with as cheap as $120 or so for a busted AF. So maybe around $200?

Thanks for the encouragement, i'll get over it... I guess I'll just be shooting more with the Nifty for the time being.

And yeah you can bring cameras in to many mosques, tho it depends on the mosque. I see muslims do it all the time!
