Hello guys! I signed-in to this forum hoping that my problem would be solved regarding the photos now taken by my Canon Ixus i.

I've been using my cam for quite some time about 3-4 years. I have never experienced any problems with this cam until recently when I was using it for documentation that horizontal lines started to appear everytime I take a shot.

For three days I've tried the following and still it didn't solve the problem:
- Rest cam to factory settings. (Hold menu button for 5 secs.)
- Recharged the batteries.
- Swaped another type of memory card. (Currently I'm using a 256mb Sandisk Card)

I've also posted some pictures of the shots taken. I'm quite sure it's not an LCD problem since i uploaded the pictures and still it has the lines. My hunch is a software malfunction or an internal battery problem. Before sending it to the service center for repairs I just want to know if anyone has a similar problem and is there a way to solve it? If i can, i'll do it on my own than waste my time and money to send it back and wait for at least a month to get it done.

The electronics (sensor and connections most likely) are going. I rather suspect that the repair cost wouldn't be too far off the cost of a new camera, which nowadays would be far ahead of your current one in features.

Thanks Jon! Do you have any idea what could have caused this problem? I mean, I've been taking around 5000 shots with this cam already and there were no problems. On that same day before it got the lines, I was able to take other shots and it was still ok.

If it's electronic, could be any number of pieces from a capacitor to the digital signal processor. If it's a connection could be flexing of a cable, a crack in a circuit board (similar issue) or vibration loosening a press-fit connector. There's not really any way of telling without going inside.

The problem you have is due to a faulty CCDs . Try to use the camera in auto mode. If the pictures taken have the same lignes on them, then i will advice you to send it to a service center to be checked. This is a know fault, stated on canon website. If you send the camera to be repaired and the service center decides that is dealing with the known fault, the repair will be free of charge.

Ok thanks! I'll have it checked right away! Hopefully I'll get it repaired for free.

I have the exact same problem with the same model. I bought the camera in August 2004 and the horizontal lines began appearing in early 2006. I shelved it since and bought a new Canon, but recently wanted a camera to keep in the car, so I'm seeing what can be done. Have you spoken to Canon? What course did you end up taking with the camera? This model is not mentioned on the list of CCD failure models that Canon will repair free of charge. Anyone else out there have any advice for us?

Hi there! Well, i sent my cam to Canon service center and i was informed that the lens/lens motor (might be the CCD) is broken and needs to be replaced. Since it was way pass the warranty given, they asked me to pay P11k for it. From that amount i decided to buy a new camera. Cause for this to happen might be impact from camera falls. So i suggest for those of you who are experiencing this problem. Try to take shots with the cam and load your pictures to the computer. If the problem is still there then it is best to save the SD cards and buy a new camera.
