Today was fall picture day in school and all morning I was looking foreward to it, hopeing to talk to some of the photographers and stare at their equipment (I was thinking they would have some sort of snazzy DLSR since its a large company) but when I got down there the cameras looked more like videocameras more than anything, big boxy things. What kind of cameras are those?

Probably long-roll film cameras from the Dark Ages.

Big boxy things...could be either A) specialized portrait cameras sold to studios that have to keep track of hundreds of photos, along with student identifier associated with each image, or b) usual medium format cameras that studios have used, with accessories.

Aha, I do belive "A" is right Wilt, any idea on where to get one of those or a name? I'm not looking to buy one, I just want to read about them a little.

Sorry, no idea who sold/sell them, or where to find any information on them. It is not too unusual for professional products to be offered and the only information is directly from the source. In this case, I think chtgrubbs was also on target with his 'Dark Ages' reply (not that I want to admit to having grown upon in the dark ages...my photo was taken with these things in grade school, all too long ago!)
