Sorry guys if this is "off topic" but I have just bought a Manfrotto 055CB tripod second hand (but mint!), complete with a "29" head, (European numbers I think they are different in North America), - for my 10D
The guy I bought it off didn't have any instructions but then again - it ain't rocket science (is it?).
So why the topic?
A couple of questions - can anyone help?
1. What is the screw thread for on top of the main tripod just above one of the legs? It is about 8mm deep or so and around the 6mm diameter - does something normally sit in here? Is it for some sort of accessory?

2. Any idea what the white plastic clip is for which attaches to one of the legs?

Thanks everyone

Here's my best guess:

1. The screw thing is for holding a tripod level.

2. The plastic thing pops off and if you look closely it appears to be for tightening loose tripod nuts since it fits quite nicely over the nuts used in the leg clamps.

I use the threaded hole to mount a ring, so that a shoulder strap can be clipped on. The other end of the strap is looped around all three legs to hold them closed. The plastic thing is a wrench for the leg bolts. It also has an indent that can clip a cable to the leg (out of your way).

Thanks guys - great help. Those two questions would have bugged me for ages so I am glad that you have sorted me out.

The Screw thing is for mounting a strap to the tripod and the white plastic thing is for holding cables in position.

Plain and simple
