Hi,
Does anyone know if A80 can be used as a webcam?
I know it works pretty well in RemoteCapture mode.
Thanks.

As far as I know no CANON digital cameras can be used as a web cam - for various reasons. If you search this and other forums you'll find you not alone in wanting this feature.

Someone else on a previous question, said that it was possible by using Camtasio Studio 2, and use it together with Remote Capture...I tried both these, and got it to lock onto the Remote Capture window, but I haven't tried streaming that video to someone else...so I don't know how that works...but if you try, please let us know.

Remote Capture together with Camtasia Studio 2 that does the live streaming bit, works very well with the IXUS 400.
At least it does work in Yahoo Messanger. As I use it very little and never had a webcam before in almost 7 years of Internet, this does more than cover my very very occasional needs. :)

I'm also interested in using the Canon S50 as a WEBCAM. I have a "cheap" Logitec webcam that works but would be interested if anyone in the forum had success in using their S50 or equivalent as a WEBCAM, ideally using the software that logitec provide with the WEBCAM

It should work for the A80. It works for my A70. There's a post here:

You need to have a video card that has rca inputs.
I have an ATI all in wonder and XP.
The other site doesn't look like it's working so here's a step by step:
With the camera setting to play, I plugged in the USB to my computer. Next, I plugged the rca out (headphone lookin plug goes into camera and rca goes to video card) into my ATI video card. My video card came with a purple box that I plug rca stuff into.

Next step was to change the input on my video card. I have an ATI program that allows me to watch t.v. on my computer. It's called T.V. viewer I think. I changed the input on the program to composite. Now turn on the camera. Close the EZ browser program (mine autoloads when camera turns on), and open the remote capture program. Click on "connect" when it asks if u want to connect to your camera. There should be a box in the (Shooting-RemoteCapture) window that says "Viewfinder On". Click it. You should see live images from your camera.
Next step is to open up the Camera Display Settings in the upper left, and Select the "video Out Terminal" option. That's it.
I open up my Yahoo messenger and click "Start My Webcam" and there I am. I think your getting stuck because your video card doesn't have rca inputs unless it's the All in wonder. Hope this helps.
