So I went down to the speedway track to do a 'job' taking pics of my brother in law and his son doing their first laps together on Big Bikes.
Got into position, set up the camera (not the first time I've shot speedway, so I knew roughly what I was doing) round they come and *click*!
Great looking shot, nice and sharp, reasonable composition, only that part of it was obscured by the message 'No CF Card'.........
Bugger!!
It was sticking out of my PC at home, and the spare was on my desk.
Shame on me!:o:o

Duh!!
Cool mistake! This is why I leave a 1Gb card in my camera bag at all times.

You are not alone. I've done it. Trick is develop a workflow to avoid doing it again.

Yep - it hasn't happened yet, but I've come close a couple of times. Now I keep a traveling bag ready with everything in it except the lens, camera and flash. When I'm ready to shoot, I choose the appropriate gear (body, lens and flash), load up and go. Spare CF cards, lens tissue, business cards, model releases, etc. are already in the bag. I think it's saved my butt a couple of times.

Eeeek, well hopefully you wont do that again in a hurry. It's always good to split things up, thats why after taking the files from the card the card goes right back in the camera, and theres a card caddy in the bag too. That way if I forget one of them there's a good chance the other is in there.
The other usefull trick is that when you have several cards and are shooting lots, when a card is finished and ready to go into the caddy, put it in face down, that way you know that the face up ones are available. ALso a good idea to save yourself time by emptying cards after copying them to your computer that way you can start shooting as soon as the card is in there. I've missed a few shots whilst waiting for the card to format, grrrrr
All the best
