What a great game. The girls lost their first 2, won the next 2, and were down 14-4 in the 5th. They rallied back to win it 18-16! Here's a few selected shots. the whole gallery is available here:

Great shots - nice and sharp and the lighting is perfect. What lens did you use?

I use the 85mm f/1.8, the 28mm f/1.8, and the 135mm f/2L

A very nice set of shots. I just got an 85mm f/1.8 in the UPS delivery today to be used primarily for volleyball--the number 15 and number 17 teams in D3 will be in town this weekend so I should see some good volleyball. It sounds like an incredible comeback which makes me think that they weren't using rally scoring. I like the rally scoring system but it makes big comebacks virtually impossible.

you need more reaction shots, volleyball has a lot of those good reaction moments, you get behind your team facing the net and after almost every point there is a good reaction from them...the last shot has a lot going on, but without the faces it really just doesnt do much
i often get stuck shooting volleyball without long glass, a 300 is a prefect focal length for good saftey shots, but without it i use reaction (good or bad depending on win or loss) as a crutch so the paper has something to run.
Its a hard sport to shoot, one of the hardest

Hey, looks like your off to a good start to the year. Shots look really nice. The one thing I am recognizing from my shots is the denoised then sharpened look. For the most part it is in pretty good control here with the exception of some of the contrast lines gaining too much. If I end up with these, I just use the blur tool right over the contrast line to soften that particular area again. It's just a subtle tweak and most who are not overanalyzing the shots wouldn't even notice. Other then that nit... the look like all kinds of fun. Cheers.
EDIT: Like the poster below mentioned, your white blance is really good. That is absolutely working very well for you.

Your volleyball pics always amaze me because there's so much pure white and the colors look fantastic. Do you do this in PP, or is the gym naturally that color, unlike many of the drab yellow-lit gyms around?

Yes, it's rally scoring. That's what made it even more exciting! Sounds like you have fun weekend planned! Be sure to post some shots! :)

I agree with you 100% there! Funny you mention about the reaction shots. Sometimes I zone out and completely forget to get any...other times, I feel like I'm getting TOO many, and not enough reaction shots. Thanks for the feedback :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely try the blur tool. To be honest, I don't put a lot (or "ENOUGH") thought in my post-processing. I will admit to kind of treating it as a routine. I really do appreciate the tip!! :)

Do you do this in PP, or is the gym naturally that color, unlike many of the drab yellow-lit gyms around? I have to be honest - the gym is pretty well lit. The lighting is a SLIGHT yellowish, and the gym floor is not glossy - so it's not reflecting a lot of yellow around which helps a lot too. But in PP, I just bring the color temp down a bit and got it white like that. Thanks for the comments. :)

Thanks! :) The gym is pretty well lit - but I was still using ISO 1600, 1/500 sec., and f/2 to get these exposures.
Nice series of shots
Thanks!! :)
