My D-Rebel will not take pictures when i have my lens (Sigma 70-210mm f2.8 ) and the flash on. I tried a 550EX and still no success. I keep getting "Error 99" when i try to take pics. It will take pics in all but the [] (fully-auto) mode w/o a flash... Any ideas?

I know the lens is still functioning because it still works on my old EOS 650... is my lens outdated for the new digital cameras?

This is an older Sigma lens,. it is not compatible with the 10D.

Sigma will re-chip it for you free to make the electronics compatible.

I use the 70-210 f.2.8 APO it's certainly worth it, it's an amazing lens.

Make a few shots on the f2.8 setting in AV mode and judge for yourself :D.

Greetings,
Frank

Sigma USED to have a better explanation of all this on there US website.. it has now disapeared? I do not think they have changed there policy though.

The page that I used to give the link to expalined in much better detail that with the 10D almost any of there older leses could have trouble.

The best bet is to get the contact info from there website and just call or E-mail. I think they returned my e-mail the next day the one time I had a question.

Hello all. Just a note to relay my experience with Sigma concerning your situation with a Sigma lens (albeit a different one). I had the same trouble you are reporting on my 10D and a Sigma 105/2.8 EX Macro. Unbeknownst to me about the "Update" I called Sigma stating that I had a lens that needed to be fixed. The lady on the phone said the waranty was one year (I have had the lens for about four years) and to send it in and they would check and advise me on charges. I went in to more detail about it working great on my A2E and then she said I needed an Update and they were free. This happened the first week of December and I received it back from Sigma in less than two weeks via FedEx.

Long post just to say give them a call and explain your trouble and they will fix it for free.

Tim

(edited to change the non-word "gree" to free)

I had a similar program with my Sigma 100-300mm zoom lens and my new 10D :)

(grins for the camera, not the lens problem)

I sent an e-mail to Sigma and the reply I got back from a support manager was that the upgrade was free, all I had to do was ship the lens back to them to be upgraded.

I haven't had any other problems with any other lenses...
