At the moment im about to purchase a 50 f/1.8 canon lens. I would like to also get a circular polarizer, and a uv filter.
So, here is my questions. Are the cheapies adequate? Or is it a whole lot better getting something along the lines of a tiffen filter?
Thanks in advance!

I would suggest not compromising on glass. I would say that Tiffin is in the middle of the road. Understand that quality Polarizers from makers like B+W are tons better but can cost as much as a cheap lens depending on the filter size. Also the Moose ones are pretty different.

SoopaTIm,
The lens you mention is very very sharp (and nice and cheap too). Putting a low quality filter on it *will* spoil the images.
Take a look at B+W or Heliopan. Not cheap and a circ pol. may work out the same cost as that lens. :)

One interesting note. I just bought a Canon 77mm UV (L-39 sharp cut) filter from one friend who have only tested it and had no use for it. Got it via mail and now looking on it, it has very tiny, just visible, scratches on surface and all quite much alligned at same direction.
Maybe the origin for scratches are from package, but in any case it makes me feel that this is very, very sensitive piece of glass..
I won't be using the filter all the time, only when I feel I want more protection but feeling little annoyed.. Guess I should invest only on German products though they cost more..
