I am currently in the market for a SLR Digital, and have been looking closely at the Nikon D100 and the new Pentax *ist.

One of my main considerations for the Pentax is that I currently use a Pentax ZX-30, and have 3 lenses that will work with the digital.

I was wondering if anyone has used the Pentax as of yet?

BTW, this is also my first post, and I am looking forward to posting some critique photos for you to all rate!

The recommendation here would certainly be Canon.

Seriously, why are interested in Nikon D100?

Too funny!

Get the Pentax if you allready have the lenses,. pentax makes better optics than Nikon anyway :D

Or, JOIN US! And get a Canon :D

nikon optics are much better. I am a proud nikon owner, and will never touch canon stuff. Only reason I'm on here is for EE

Blasphemy.
Stop using the N word round here, I am getting all twitchy.
Every manufacturer has a lens that is beter and one from another manufacturer. N***n and Canon optics are about the same overall quality, both do great lenses, both do rubbish lenses.

But this is a canon forum, so canon lenses are the ones used by the gods :D :D :D

Dude,. I was joking!

Pentax does make fine optics,. both for cameras and other stuff...

The point was he has the Pentax lenses allready :) So to me it could be an easy decision...

BUT,. I think I should have thought through my first answer a little more clearly... by asking you some questions.

Are you happy with the Pentax lenses you own?
Do you consider them to be a good investment?
I know nothing of there lens line.. are these new AF lenses?
Are these the "good" Pentax lenses are the consumer grade inexpensive lenses.

I ask all this because when all is said and done, it is your lenses that will make up the bulk of you system investment.

You need to decide whether you are comfortable with your existing investment and whether you wish to continue with system as a whole.

So,. buying the *ist may be the most straight forward decision for you,.. but it could be "compounding an error" if you are disatisfied with your existing lenses.

If you feel that a change in total system,. ie: all new lenses in order,. than get a 10D and a 28-135mm IS and srart from scratch :D

Hmm...Extreme care is needed when a discussion includes Nikon and Canon. I don't understand. I can't imagine the days when Canon provided the body for Nikon lens.

I absolutely agree with CDS. I don't understand why he considers the D100 as

- he has Pentax lenses
- D100 is rather "old" (especially there are new Nikon DSLR being released)

By the way, everyone knows Nikon make good glass, so does Canon and Pentax...

Wow! Thanks to all for the great responses! Hope you all had a great holiday!!

BTW, I am now (cough cough!) looking into the Canon Digital as well, mainly due to the comparison to both the Nikon and the Pentax, and the price difference! I think Canon is going to make a killling on this one!

For Xmas, I bought myself a nice i960 Color Inkjet... It is by far, the most feature-full and professional ink-jet compared to HP and Epson for this class printer. I assume the Canon Digital will have the "Pictbridge" port already on the camera?

Has anyone here started using the Canon digital SLR yet?

If the Pentax *ist does all you need it to do and you have lenses, buy it and be happy. Else, since I am a Canon fan, consider the 10D.
