Canon 35-80 -- will it come back???

Will this lens ever be brought back in the realm of canon lenses, in an L format or even with IS?

It's the one thing that I feel would fill the gap between my 17-40 f4/L and
70-200 f/4L, and would be perfect for me. Wonder if they ever will bring it back...and if they do, how much of a demand it would have out there, especially with 1.6x type cameras.
