Well, the new year is near. I have viewed some wonderful pictures and learned great tricks of the trade from all of my fellow G3 heads. I was wondering if anyone had some insight as to what Canon had in store for future PowerShots, more noteably the G-series. I love my camera and I'm sad to admit that the A60 I bought for my mother has better focusing than the powerhouse G3. The G5 is nothing to rave about when its focusing is the same as the G3. What can a Canon loyalist expect in the near future?

I've purchased both an A80 and an A60 for family members in the past month and pleased with how nicely they focus, even in dim light. The A80 really does a good job compared to our clunky G3.

Good troll, you should get a lot of bites with that bait.

He's right though, the G3 struggles in low light - that all so familiar yellow box!
I'm looking forward to a 10D with a decent lens.
Don't get me wrong - the G3 is top of the range, I just think that the autofocus could be quicker and less fussy.

Bring it on.........

Funny you should ask! Check out this link. While no specifics, it looks like Canon has plenty of new hardware coming this year.

I keep debating whether or not to go to the Digital Rebel.
I hear about some of the limitations, and wonder if it is a step backward from my G3.

However, one comparison of pics I made (from Steve's digicams) really shows a MUCH nicer picture from the Digital Rebel. I actually can't beleive how clean and sharp the DR pic is.

Compare this G5 pic....

If I was buying today it would probably be the 10D. I think it is worth the extra above the Rebel. Maybe they will come out with a replacement next year though for the 10D that is in between it and the 1D.

I wasn't really trolling civis. Just feeling a little dissatisfied with my G3 focusing prowess in comparison to other cheaper and less sophisticated digicams by the same manufacturer.

My wish for the next Gx series would be better low light focusing, maybe something close to what the SLRs can do.

I think one of the easiest things they could have done was to make the focus assist lamp on the external flash ex series (420ex etc) compatible with the G series (or other way around)

I agree with that. Noted and added to wish list.
