Someone mentioned that a 24/70 lens has effectively a longer focal length on a 10d - Is this true?

10D has what some call a magnification factor. Others call it a crop factor. If you have a 24mm lens on your 10D and take a picture from a given distance, your image would look like a 38.4mm lens on a standard 35mm film camera. The factor is 1.6. This is because the CMOS sensor is 1.6 times smaller than a 35mm film frame.

This subject has been discussed at great length many times. Here's one interesting discussion that took place a couple months ago.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Don't get us started!!!!!
:D :D :D :D
Thye short answer,.. to get the appropriate Feild of view,.. muliply the lenses stated focal length times 1.6.... this will give you the 10D's feild of view/foal length relative to a 35mm film plane :)

Aw come on Jens, one has to determine the foal length before you can work out whether or not your fieild will hold all your horses

And remember with your fieild of view must be good otherwise you will need a better fence to leep the foal and all of it's lengh in! :D
