Is it possible to apply for a press pass or photographers pass to try and shoot sporting events from first row seats? Not shoot from a press box or anything, but something that would allow you to bring your comera gear in and not be hassled?

Reason i ask is, i went to a NJ Devils vs. NY Rangers preseason game tuesday and had the intentions of just shooting the players during warm-up since i was in the upper upper deck. I had brought my backpack as to not have camera hanging around me. But when doors opened, i had to show my hoodie to be checked, then frisked and asked what was in the bag. I replied, "my camera". They said no backpacks, or cameras allowed especially telephoto's. They said i could check it in with security, i laughed at that idea and just put it back in the truck. But it made me made that i couldn't even bring my camera in at all even with a wide angle zens.

Is there anything i can do?

Not really, other than getting a job working for the media. Pro teams are very sensitive about copyright issues. That's why I stick with high school and college sports photography. You might consider that avenue, although yearbook advisors and newspapers are becoming inundated with requests from amateur sports shooters. It would be worth a try, though.
