Hey all,
I am creating a DVD with family photos on that goes right back to the 1900s and I was wondering if there was some sort of software I could put on the DVD along with the photos, something they could navigate around. Rather than putting the images on a DVD and using what ever display their DVD player uses to show pictures on a disk.
I hope you know what I am trying to say.

i think you could be looking at more expensive software like Adobe Premier or something like that.

You can setup menus and everything using Proshow Gold (http://photodex.com/).
I have used this for quite some time and it is fantastic, check it out, well worth it.

Alot of DVD burning software has the option to burn a disc to be played in a conventional dvd player that is attached to a TV. (If that is what your asking) Check out NERO

Any batch conversion utility (irfanview - free - or cs2) will convert those in a few minutes.

I did something similar for a few hundred pictures I took in yellowstone. The images don't really tell a story without help, so I downloaded a piece of freeware form microsoft called Photostory 3
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx
It lets you do some cool pans and zooms as well as captions (Both text and audio) and music. Your pictures look like a Ken Burns documenary. It compiles to wmv file that most DVD software can import. You add chapters and and you have a really cool DVD you can give to anyone with a DVD player.

Can you help me? I'm using proshow gold - made a show - had no problem burning it to a DVD+RW. It plays fine on the computer but will not play on our DVD player (or anyone elses') Is there something I'm missing in the setup of the show?? When I put it in the DVD player, the menu does come up (& the proshow gold logo) but there's no button for playing

The only issue I can see is that you used DVD+RW instead of DVD-R/+R. It's possible you're DVD player and the ones you tried it on aren't 100% compatible, in most cases a lot of players don't like +RW.

Proshow Gold! It has neat transitions and you can add music. It has a number of options.

I use Premiere Elements for video. Same idea as Photoshop Elements - contains many features found on the Premiere full version, but for a lot less. (In fact, I originally bought the Photoshop Elements/Premiere Elements bundle).

Thank you so much - I just looked up my DVD player compatibility and it is NOT compatible with DVD+R or +RW only the -R or -RW and I'm sure its the same on the others I tried. Need to go out and buy different DVD's Thanks again....

This is a very handy post as I've got to do the same thing with 400 images of a wedding.
Do these programs that create a video slideshow also put the filename on the screen? It would be a bit useless for ordering reprints without the filenames appearing for people.
Thanks
