I feel I am not a noob any more, this is my 300th post !
Being on vacation has helped me rake up the post numbers very quick.
However, next week is back to work.....how will I ever catch up to the likes of Ronald S.Jr. or Calicokat or Dante King.......unless I quit my job ? Hey, that's an idea, I'd be a man of leisure.

I simply can not fathom how would it be possible for me to have a full time job, pursue family and other social obligations, get involved with a few hobbies such as photography and yet have enough time to get to a thousand posts over a year or so ? Something has to give somewhere in a major way. Perhaps actual picture taking ?

Special thanks I owe to macro folks here who have given me good advice on the 100 f/2.8 and 180L.

well...I've not been here a year yet and I'm close to 2000. Admittedly I go to school, come home, spend ridiculous amounts of time in front of the computer...and do my homework...

w00t...roll on 2000

congrats! but the number of posts have no bearing on who is who here, some posts are very short, like 'nice shot!' which, imo, don't really count as a genuine post.

hehe, like this post of mine! ;)

I had 175 posts last November until I decided to "kick it up a notch." Since then, I've become very involved in the POTN community. It really doesn't take that much time to amass a number of posts.

It seems to me that the Photo Sharing Forums can generate lottsa post traffic. By the time you say "Thank you" to each and every one of your buddies who posted "Nice capture" in response to your post, you've got 10. Then it's your turn to compliment everyone of your buddies with "Nice capture" post.......and bingo, you've tallied up 20 posts in 1/2 hr.

I like to post in several types of threads (looking at new photos is my favorite) but I'm afraid that just one particular thread has practically doubled my post count...overall, it's an enjoyable way to learn/participate in (mostly) interesting discussions re: photography...

Sometimes, i think post counts are a curse. I wonder if they don't in some ways serve to "clog" the board. Do we really need to post "Yeah, me too." or "Ditto" or "What he said ^^^"? If we post a pleasing photo in the photo sharing forums do we really have to post an individual "thank you" for every complimentary post? In fact, is a "Nice shot" post as helpful to the OP as it could be without explaining why it's a "nice shot"? "Textbook use of the rule of thirds" or "good use of motion blur to convey action" or some specific advice for improvement, IMO, would be much more helpful to the newbie trying to improve her skills. I consciously try to restrict my posts to asking questions, offering equipment recommendations based on gear that I have owned or researched, providing technical answers that I am absolutely positive of, or adding levity. In eight months, I've amassed about 400 posts, and for the first couple of months, I was strictly a lurker. I'll never get to X0,000 posts, but post count isn't on my scorecard. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not passing judgement on anyone or their reasons for posting. I don't begrudge anyone their high counts. I believe I've only initiated 2 or 3 threads. If others were not starting threads and keeping the discussion going, I'd have even fewer posts than I have now.

I think you have nailed it. Right now it seems that the system operates as a sort of a round robin of reflex compliments on Photo Sharing Forums. Thus, learning opportunities are missed, experience is not being shared sufficiently in my opinion.
One little example: on the Lens Forum I had started a thread yesterday about 1/FL shutter speed rule for hand-held telephoto shooting. A few of us were all quick to post our best photos (or criticize them) which was all good.....yet the technique/tips exchange was not as forthcoming.

42-43 posts per day is absolutely insane. You post nonstop. I'm only at 22.something. Granted, I've been here just over a year and gotten almost 9,000, but at your current rate, you'll be way past me in about a year and a half.

I passed an IQ test with flying colors (163), but I don't go by those numbers, and you'd never guess anyway. My dad took an IQ test, and they said they couldn't give him his score because "something appears to have gone wrong" (read: he got too high a score). Don't know.

Anyway, I think we do share the same affliction. Mine is with numbers mostly. Every phone number, every license plate number, the vin on my caddy, my family's SS#'s (siblings, parents and grandparents), driver's license #'s (including the serial number on the bottom corner), etc. I know them all. No idea where I put my car keys earlier, though.

Then, welcome home. We must not take either ourselves or our photography too seriously. I think Ron and I both believe that being gay is the key to happines in life. Apropos gayety and mirth, look at Dante King.....he seems such a perpetually happy ol' trout.

No wonder you all have so many posts!

You know it is considered very bad forum etiquette to reply to your own post. The multi-quote feature recently installed means even if your not apt enough to cope with using the and tags, you can still have more than one quote in a post.

If your posts are going to help anyone or contribute in any way, perhaps you should consider not making them. The bandwidth and server space consumed by this forum must be huge, and having 2 posts to call from the database instead of one won't help that at all.

Anyway...be happy!
