View Full Version : 30D - RAW files give shutter speed much lower than Tv setting

I posted recently about my 30D appearing to be less light-sensitive at 1600 than my 10D. I now have an even weirder, if possible, problem. I set the camera to Tv, shutter priority, and did a number of shots at settings from 1/30 to 1/60 seconds. The RAW files tell me that these shots were actually shot at 1/8 to 1/50!?!
Explanations or insight, anybody? I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts, even guesses....

You have shifted the program using the quick control dial on the back of the camera.

Is it possible you have custom function 16 (safety shift) enabled? If so, it will revert to Av mode and slow down the shutter speed if it doesn't have enough light with the lens wide open.

You have shifted the program using the quick control dial on the back of the camera. In Tv mode, the QCD would adjust EC, which would change the aperture, not the shutter speed.

I'll blame it on Tv Av dyslexia

It was Function 16! I'd set it and forgotten it. Thanks, Curtis!
That leaves me with the question ofwhy the camera needed light enough to make the shift to Av, which is where I started....
